Haruhi Suzumiya
Haruhi Suzumiya
The Perplexity of Haruhi Suzumiya

What a challenge! When my client said she wanted to do the super popular Haruhi Suzumiya, I was prepared to crank out a standard sailor fuku and have done with it. Nope! She wanted a rather obscure version from the PS2 offering of the franchise.

The inner skirt was easy enough and based off a cheerleader's skirt pattern. The rest was completely drafted by hand, using pieces from no less than five different commercial patterns as a base. The costume is three major pieces for easy packing and storage. The sleevelets are not attached in any way, but stay on the biceps pretty well. The gloves stand up on their own without any interfacings or boning. The armband is just like the one from the anime. Giant bows are a specialty of mine, since I've become quite adept at making long strips look "bow-like".

There is an intentional discrepancy in the brooch, since I was unable to find any as big as the one in the game. So I bought the biggest and prettiest one I could find and pinned it on the halter top.

I'm so proud with how this turned out that I was tempted to tell my client that she couldn't have it! Does that make me a bad person?
